Marin Learning
Who I Am
The short version? I’m . . .
A happy lifelong learner in many fields of study
A former university researcher and teacher with a UCLA doctorate
An enthusiastic tutor dedicated to ensuring each student’s success
What I Offer
UCLA Doctorate • Love of Learning
My enjoyment of learning and problem-solving led me into numerous areas of study and to a UCLA doctorate. After fourteen years as a researcher and teacher, I became a full-time private tutor in 2007. I offer deep knowledge and insight, and profound enthusiasm for academics.
Extensive Tutoring Experience
Because I thoroughly know the material and how best to cover each topic, I can fine-tune my instructional methods from moment to moment. Where appropriate, I provide supplementary information or problems for mastery, interest, insight, or fun. Among my students in AP calculus, AP chemistry, and AP physics, all who have made at least minimal effort have received fours or fives on the AP exam.
Individualized Tutoring Approach
My approach to each student differs. Although seriously nerdish myself, I enjoy all kinds of students, including those who love school and those who don’t. I help students widely ranging in age, ability, and attitude. I succeed with students who have moderate to severe learning differences, and I adapt my instruction to individual learning styles.
Familiarity with Marin and other Bay Area Schools
Having since 2007 tutored Marin County students attending Marin and other Bay Area schools, I am familiar with each school’s math and science curriculum and most of the teachers. For each math, chemistry, or physics course, I know how the material is presented and am aware of the difficulties that typically arise.
How I Help
My tutoring helps students . . .
Engage with the subject
Appreciate learning
Gain confidence in their abilities
Build academic perseverance
Enjoy solving problems independently
Focus on key concepts and fundamentals
Strive for deeper understanding
Become eager to attempt difficult material
Prepare to transition to more advanced subjects
Develop behavior that promotes success
Why I Tutor
I am a blissful scholar, enjoying everything from the dreamiest humanities to the most rigorous sciences. From elementary school to my doctoral program at UCLA, I was at the top of nearly every class, not because of brilliance but because I love to learn, grow, and do my best. This is a mindset I strive to nurture in students.
Over the years I have illuminated math and science for countless students. It has been a pleasure to see my students learn successfully, become good problem-solvers, and achieve their academic and professional goals.
I was born to tutor, and I devote myself to each student’s success.
