Chemistry Tutoring
My understanding of chemistry is broad and deep.
Chemistry is complex, from the mind-boggling behavior of electrons in atoms and molecules to the profound principles of kinetics and thermodynamics.
I earned a UCLA doctorate in geochemistry because I find the intricacies of chemistry fascinating and its applications to planetary and cosmic sciences powerful. I understand chemistry thoroughly.
I tutor in chemistry for the following:
High School Chemistry
Honors Chemistry
AP Chemistry
College Chemistry
Chemistry integrates many topics.
I enjoy helping students see the connections among chemistry’s many concepts and skills. For instance, here’s a lovely problem: Use the number of atoms and valence electrons to figure out molecular structure; then deduce molecular polarity, intermolecular attractions, and molecular behavior. This problem can be solved by mindless memorization or by understanding. Understanding is better. One of my students, for example, struggled mightily in an exceptionally challenging honors chemistry course, finally developed a thorough understanding, and became a Stanford chemistry major who tutored Stanford chemistry students.
